Ask Your Web Design Company About The Effects of Website Load Time

Website load speed is at the same time a functionality element and also a ranking factor.

Sluggish loading sites annoy end users, who are likely to hit the back browser button in a heart beat, while Google prefers visitors to experience an all round favorable encounter every time they check out a search engine product. Google announced web site speed as a rank component way back in 2010.

Webpage speed is worried with how fast a webpage loads into the user's browser, and this includes all the subject matter, the pictures and video footage. How rapidly a webpage will load depends on quite a few troubles, such as how the website is coded, where exactly it is hosted and how large the files are which must be run to display the website in the user's internet browser.

A swifter loading time frame is a more desirable visitor encounter, together with a beneficial increase for better rankings in the Google search results.

How Do You Check My Site Loading Performance?

The main thing you should do is take a look at your present website load speed. Thankfully, there are lots of specialist tools out there that will do this for you without cost.

What Should My Website Load Speed Generally Be?

When you have an online site load speed of below two seconds, you're in the right range, but quicker is undoubtedly much better.

A load rate of 2 to five seconds is positioning you in the risk sector.

More than five seconds, and you're sacrificing visitors and suffering in the search engine ranking positions.

How Can I Make This Site Load Speedier?

There are various things you can do to increase the page load rate, and here are my top strategies for a swifter web page.

Website Speed Tip #1 - Re-size Graphics so they really are reduced to the lowest usable size

Making use of large picture files will considerably slow down the page load tempo. Lessen the file overall size by checking the photograph in a photo manager, such as Photoshop or maybe Paint. By decreasing the pixels into the dimensions you want the photo to be provided, e.g. 225x225 pixels, you will considerably improve the load speed in comparison with if the graphic was 1150x1150 pixels, for example.

Website Speed Tip #2 - Make use of Speedier File Types for Pictures

Image file formats vary in the way they display the photograph and also how soon they will likely load. For those who have a picture with a lot of color variety, you will almost certainly want to work with a JPEG format, but this is probably going to be a slow load.

Start using a GIF for pics which have a minimal color spectrum, such as the business trademark.

Alternately, utilize a PNG format for other photos where ultra-high quality is just not a dilemma.

Website Speed Tip #3 - Rule out Pics On the Whole

At this stage you may understand that images are the distinctive offenders when considering slowing load speeds, and you'll be absolutely correct. Picture files are far larger than text files applied to render the text, and video clips are even larger.

In case you don't need to display a picture or video, don't use it.

Website Speed Tip #4 - Take advantage of 3rd Party Platforms for Video Hosting

If you use video, you've got a couple of choices:

1. Host the recording on your dedicated server

2. Make use of a third Party hosting web site, just like Metacafe, Vimeo, or YouTube.

A self-hosted video has specific advantages from the point of having the online video search engine ranked (in the event the online video does get ranked, the internet site exactly where it is hosted gets the Search page results credit). On the flip side, hosting the video on a third party internet site and basically giving the streaming window is much faster loading.

Website Speed Tip #5 - Benefit from Website Compression Resources

Website data compression instruments compress the written text files that incorporate the web source code and your written website content. By data compressing the files, they are quicker to load from the hosting server where they are stored and to the end user's internet browser.

Web site compression tools you should not have an effect on how the website looks, but be mindful that they do not reduce graphics and video (and that means you still have to deal with most of these).

Website Speed Tip #6 - Limit the utilization of Plugins and External Functions

Should you be adding widgets and plugins to your web page, then these are typically served up by a supplier that you have zero control over. In particular, an eCommerce shopping cart application like Volusion is not inside your direct control, so if there exists a load speed dilemma, it truly is a thing you cannot contend with other than by asking the third party vendor to speed up their performance.

Inserting widgets on your web page for revealing your posts is a good idea in general, but watch out for those that you use because they can also slow your web site load speed downwards. Always look for the web page speed risks for every plugin or external characteristic, because the edge might not be outweighed by a slow speed.

To conclude, web page speed positively has an affect on the user experience and is a vital alert that the search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo keep an eye on routinely. Utilizing the ideas pointed out previous helps improve webpage conversion rate, and positioning your website much better within the ambitious surroundings of the search results.

Make sure that you ask your web design company about the fact that load time has a strong correlation with your website's Google rankings. Every single website design company in the world must be aware of this crucial fact.

Things to Know While Finding a Good Graphic Designer

It is quite easy to find a graphic these days. Today, entrepreneurs have a large pool of graphic design talents to choose from. However, before making a final decision, there are a few important tips that could help you find just the right designer.

When graphic designers set out to deliver to their clients, they should be capable of placing themselves in the shoes of the clients' target audience. There are four important aspects of a design that good graphic should be able to look at, through the audience's perspective.

1. Is the image inspiring?

2. Is it captivating?

3. Is it motivational?

4. Is the text easy to read?

These are four questions that should be answered before converting the idea into a real design.

When designing, a graphicshould keep the client's current brand image in mind. Sometimes web come up with designs that may just be short of a masterpiece but fail to merge with the client's brand image. This shift in the client's brand image could dent the image rather than promoting it. Experts suggest that reviewing a graphic designer's portfolio prior to hiring them for a project will help in avoiding such common pitfalls. It is always safe and a good approach for the client to ask for a sample design from the prospective designer in order to assess the designer's capabilities and talent. As an example, in a case where the client wants to have a office furniture brochure designed, the client should ask for a sample office furniture brochure design to assess whether the designer has any previous experience.

References are another way to confirm as capabilities. If a designer refuses to provide verifiable references with respect to his or her past work, it is always better to look for another designer who can provide a reference.

Few more tips related to choosing the right designer based on the inputs from the latest news are listed below:

1. Crisp, Clear Photography

The photography used in the graphic design should be crystal clear and should contain crisp images. Blurs, pixelization, over-exposure should not be present in the photographs.

2. Unique, Original Pictures

Borrowing or stealing photos to be used in harms the image of the company. Entrepreneurs are always advised against using such methods as it could lead to copyright infringement. All images used in a brochure, website or an advertisement should be unique and original. The pictures used should set an individual or a company apart from the rest.

3. Avoiding Clip-Arts

The usage of clip-arts in graphic design for newsletters or fliers should be minimal. Excessive clip-arts make it difficult for people to focus on the text. Clip-arts if used in a graphic design should always gel with the text and not make the design look mixed up.

4. Relevant Usage of Pictures

The photography used in a graphic design should always represent the primary message of a product or service. In addition, the colors that make up the photos should complement the overall colors and theme used in the design.

A few final words

Finding a good graphic designer or a good design need not be rocket science. Remembering these few points while selecting a good graphic designer can help you find the right person to design for you. It will also help you save time and money. However, it is also important that you pay attention to the process and the time needed to find the right designer. This little investment of time can be the difference between a bad or ordinary design and a high quality professional website design.

4 Graphic Design Tips For Giving Your Logo A New Edge

In many respects, your company logo forms the face of your product or service; it is the image that existing and potential customers associate with you. If you have been looking at your company's logo and have started to think that it isn't exactly what you wanted, it could be time for a redesign. To save you the hassles of starting from scratch, use these graphic design tops to give your old one a brand new edge:

Strip it down - Why not take advantage of the fact that minimalism is the current 'IT' trend in graphic design and strip your logo down to the bare basics? It not only looks good - it really works, too! If you are still unsure about whether this is the move for you, just keep in mind that simple design are a lot easier to recognize than busier ones. If your current logo has a heap of elements crammed in, try toning it down a little.
Change the font - They say that a change is as good as a holiday, and the same is true for graphic design. If you like your logo but cannot tell what needs to change, swapping the font is a really subtle way of doing this. Plenty of logos have been created using a serif font because it appeals to older audiences and suggests that you want to be taken seriously. If your current audience is a bit younger, however, you could swap over to a sans-serif font.
Simplify the design - Before you start yelling at us about how this point is very similar to the first one, let us just say that this is the time to consider a completely new graphic design. If your existing logo is extremely busy and generic, you should try breaking the design down and working with it until you come out with something that is a little more unique. A modern logo also shows that you're moving with the times.
Change the colours - People tend to associate colours with certain emotions, feelings and even objects. For example, blue is often seen as being welcoming, red as feisty or energetic, and green as natural. Changing the colours used in your logo could prove to be a subtle or a drastic change, but it could be exactly what your logo needed to generate success. You just need to stand out from the crowd a little more.

At the end of the day, it is important to remember that redesigning your company's logo is actually a very timely thing. As long as you are sure that you are making the right decision, you should look at how the above graphic design tips can give your logo that edge it has been lacking all these years, hopefully pulling in more customers with its unique look.

Basic Optimization Tips For Websites

Website optimization is important for anyone who runs a website. Without it, your website will not only be inefficient but may also scare off visitors. As such, you may want to follow these brief tips listed below.

Get a Decent Hosting Provider

This is perhaps the most important part optimizing your website. It does not matter what else you do if you do not have a great host, so take the time to do your research. Never be fooled by special promotions or low prices - instead, take the time to make sure that you know exactly what you will get from the host. Take a look at the amount of downtime that popular sites hosted by the company have experienced, and always make sure to look into customer service response times. If you do so, you should be able to find a great host.

Do Not Be Afraid to Outsource

If you have a modern website, you know that the bells and whistles are often a necessity. Unfortunately, having all the bits and pieces of an average website on the same server can make your life very difficult. As such, you may want to think about using other services to supplement your own. If you want images, consider having them hosted by Flickr or Imgur. Forms, on the other hand, might be better handled by FormSpring than they are by you. No matter what you choose, though, make sure that the outside service is actually reliable.

Minimize the Slowdown

If you really want your site to take off, you need to make sure that it is actually user friendly. For most, this means making sure that the site functions at a reasonable speed. Most web designers have already learned the lessons of the early days of the internet, getting rid of graphic-intensive sites and focusing on the important info. Modern designers, though, still have a good deal of work to do. Try to minimize the number of redirects on your site, try to keep information as concentrated as possible and always remember that many of your visitors may be using mobile browsers which do not handle images of gifs quite as well. Keeping this in mind will help you to speed up your site and keep visitors.

If you want to run a website, make sure that you keep optimization in mind. Keep your site friendly, make sure to offload content that you cannot handle yourself and always make sure that you have a great host. If you can, you can focus on your content rather than your website's build.

Reasons To Hire A Web Design Specialist In Expanding Your Business

To expand your business properly these days, the traditional media will not be enough. To properly expand your business, you need the help of the internet. It is cheaper than traditional media and it reaches a wider audience. Many of the business men and women today do not maximize their web presence potential. Though these sites are good, you must have your own official web site to be considered as a legitimate business. In some states like California web design is very crucial when putting up a new business.

There are a lot of technical skills needed to make a web site stand out in a sea of web pages. When hiring a website designer, make sure that he or she have the necessary skills in making a great website.

The skills of a web designer go beyond making a website look good. On of the additional problems that designers take care of is the how the website works with different browsers. The pages in a web site might do well with one browser while do poorly on another.

Another concern of the web designer is the sizes of the screens in today's technology savvy consumers. In today's technology, people can surf the net in a cell phone screen so the designer must consider this.

Due to the cutthroat nature of their industry, designers also include web hosting and SEO in their services. Some even have a side PPC agency business to enhance their services. You will lessen your expenses when hiring these types of agencies. Agencies like these also include providing content with properly researched keywords. This will improve your ranking in searches. If you are in a huge city like Los Angeles, web design helps you in competing with established businesses by connecting your business faster with the people.

One added advantage with hiring website designers is their experience with algorithms of special features of some websites they designed in the past. These special features, such as the "add to cart" button in shopping websites not only make the website look good but also improve the service your site provides.

You just have to be a little careful when hiring web designers. Since there are so many of them, you're spoilt for choice. Go through their work from the past and if possible, get in touch with their clients. See what they say about the designer. In simple words: don't rush. Do careful research and take time if you need to.

This article discusses how to expand your business by taking help of a PPC agency.

Why Is Mobile Web Optimization Important?

Mobile browsers are odd. They function on machines that are not quite as strong as traditional computers, often using browsers that are more concerned about making the most of limited space than adding in all the bells and whistles of modern sites. To stay competitive in a market in which these browsers are a concern, you have to learn how to optimize your website for mobile browsers.

An Increasing Share of the Marketplace

Take a look at your desk. How many ways do you have to browse the web? If you are an average person, you have at least one traditional computer and one web-enabled portable device. If you throw in laptops, netbooks and tablets, you get a picture of a very diverse browsing marketplace. Given that smartphones are the sole device on the marketplace that can be easily used on the go without any kind of wi-fi signal, it obvious why it is important to cater to this part of the market. Even if only a small percentage of your customers make use of mobile browsing, this is a percentage that still has money available to spend.

A Fleeting Moment

The mobile web market has an intense level of competition. If your web page is hard to navigate on a phone, most users will use elsewhere. If it takes too long to load, most users will simply turn away. Every use that you lose due to poor optimization is a lost sale or click-through, money that has been taken directly away from your profits due to poor design. Given how easy the problem is to fix, it would be foolish to ignore the opportunity.

The Future

Even if you do not think that current trends point towards the majority of customers visiting your website via a mobile device, you might want to take the time to think about the future. The amount of growth in the smartphone market alone during the last five years has been nearly unprecedented, and tablet computers are making a very similar jump in accessibility. This means that your future customers are far less likely to have access to a typical computer screen or web browser than those in the past, and that your future really is dependent on mobile optimization.

The modern marketplace trends towards mobility. As such, you should make sure that your site is optimized for mobile browsers. While it may take a great deal of work to do so, it will help you to maintain your page views and connect with a more mobile marketplace.

A Look at the Benefits of Pinging Your Site and Its Pages

Online marketing has evolved by leaps and bounds in the past few years, at least ever since Web 2.0 appeared and platforms such as WordPress gave inexperienced people the ability to build their own websites in the blink of an eye. Various tools have been developed to help people expand their online business, with one of the more prominent ones being "pinging". However, it seems that many people are still unclear as to what pinging is, let alone what the benefits of pinging your site and its pages are.

To put things as simply as possible, pinging is basically the act of letting a number of various directories and search engines know that something new has been added or updated on your website. The act of pinging is possible through a number of websites which offer the service; all you need to do is enter the URL of your website, press the appropriate button, and the site will be pinged across the net.

And so, what are the benefits of pinging your site and its pages? After all, it's not like you are doing anything substantial by simply sending a signal to search engines... or are you? As it happens, when your website is pinged to search engines a number of things take place. For starters, you are indicating to the search engines that there is activity on your website, which invites more bots to crawl through your site, indexing the new content faster so that it appears in the search engines. All in all, it will basically increase your site's status and importance when the search engines decide whether or not to display it for the results, and it identify new content much faster.

Why exactly should you be pinging every single page of your website? This is mostly due to the method according to which search engines index websites. Instead of indexing them as a whole, they go about it on a page-by-page basis; after all, when people are looking for a specific bit of information, they want to be redirected to the exact place they can find it without having to do any additional research. Pinging every single one of your pages individually increases their chances of being displayed in the search engines, thus increasing the amount of traffic you're getting.

And so, to sum things up, the benefits of pinging your site and its pages are simple and well worth the effort: your website will be indexed faster, it will be given more value as far as search engine results are concerned, and new content will be indexed sooner as well.

And so how exactly are you supposed to ping your website? Well, as was mentioned briefly above, there are certain websites out there which allow you to ping your site to various search engines and whatnot... that's the manual way of doing it. Depending on the kind of business you are or intend on running, you may find that it takes up a heck of a lot of your time. There is another alternative in the form of a software which basically takes care of it for you, pinging your website in multiple places with the click of a button; there are many such pieces of software to choose from, and the good part is that they usually don't cost much, if anything at all.

There are many thing you can do to market your sites content. After you write new content, one of the most important things you can do is to ping Google and make them aware of your sites new content.

Understanding What A Complex Website Design Is

It is an undeniable fact that the appearance of a website can make or break its impression. The role of web designers, therefore, is highly crucial. When it comes to designing, several website designers argue that a simpler design is a better design. They believe that it tends to be more attractive, since it is easier to understand. Diversely, it is argued that several internet users tend to find simple websites a lot more informal. A simple website has the look of something being created by a beginner, which is why it may not appeal to many. It is also believed that it may look like an unprofessional website, or simply an unappealing one due to the obvious lack of investment in it. To resolve the debate between simple and complex designs, there is a need to understand what complex website designs actually are.

It so happens that most of the arguments in favor of simpler website designs are the result of a misunderstanding. Several people misinterpret the idea of a complex design. For many, the term refers to a webpage stuffed with a myriad of unnecessary components. This, however, is not what a complex website design refers to. In fact, the degree of complexity in a website design actually refers to the degree of expertise that is put into it. If a webpage is referred to as 'complex', it simply means that it contains more than usual titles and catchy images. There are several other components put into it after thorough contemplation on the part of experienced web designers.

An advanced website design includes several sophisticated components. For one, it includes Search Engine Optimization. The design is created in a way that can make the website be ranked higher on search engines. Also, great attention is paid to the content written on the website and the way this is presented in. For example, the titles on the website are carefully chosen. Certain keywords related to the website are carefully incorporated into titles as well as the rest of the content, so as to make the webpage rank high on search engines. Similarly, several other tools are included to increase the functionality of a website. These usually include content management systems and databases, so as to make it easier for the website manager to keep a track of the website.

A complex design, therefore, does not refer to an unnecessarily complicated one in terms of appearance. It actually refers to a much more advanced system of designing, which incorporates advanced techniques that are not included in simple designs.

Good Tips for Effective Website Design

When it comes to designing or getting your website designed, one of the first things that you need to emphasize is clear navigation. Moreover, the website should be simple yet attractive and unique. This means that the website should be able to grab and hold onto attention of site visitors for long and encourage them to come back time and again. However, appeal of the website should not be influenced by excessive use of flash as that can considerably slow down the loading speed of the site that would irritate the site users.

It is always recommended that the website should have minimal of flash unless you are running a flash-based business and want to show off your flash achievements and portfolio. Moreover, it is very important for the website to be designed for all computer resolutions (640 x 480 to 1024 x 768 and may be even higher). For this, it is best to design or get the site designed in terms of percentage, not pixels.

In addition to these web site designing tips, it is important for you to convey to the web designer your complete expectations and the fact that the website should be designed keeping in mind both the site users and the search engines. Moreover, the web designer should conform to web designing standard guidelines and make use of readable and professional looking website fonts. If that was not all, you should always make it a point to use uncluttered images and the number of images on the site should be kept low. It is best to avoid bulky images that may slow down the loading speed of the website. Use of tables creatively and eye-catching icons is highly suggested as site visitors are more keen in site content than in website design.

Before the website is uploaded and made live, it is very important to check it for broken links. Once the site is made live, it should be regularly updated with unique, relevant, and interesting content and must be checked at regular intervals for broken links and other problems.

To avoid these and many more website designing mistakes, it is best for you to hire the services of a professional designer or web Design Company that specializes in web development. This would ensure that your website is in safe hands and comes out just as you would like it to be, neat and professional.

Informative Tips For Web Design

You can save yourself a lot of money by designing your own website. But, you need to do your research, and know what you're getting into. Just because you have an eye for graphic design doesn't mean that you have the patience or time to design your own website, much less make it function properly.

START SMALL
You may not want to hear this, but it's really important to start small. Limit yourself to just one or two pages, at first, and make sure everything works. There are a couple of things you can do to get started that will help you learn your way around.

1. BASIC TEXT: Stick with basic text, at first. Learn how to do your basic entries onto the website using your web editor, and make sure you validate everything you do. Go back in a couple of days and edit a few things, to make sure you have mastered the process.

2. BASIC IMAGES: Don't start with GIFS or music heavy videos at the beginning. Just use a simple image. Move it around on the page, or between pages, and get familiar with resizing it and framing it. And, once you've done this, validate it so that it won't freeze up someone's computer.

START GROWING
Once you have your basic one or two pages done, you can start to beef up your site a little bit. Web design doesn't happen all at once.

Most web hosts have a variety of templates you can use to put your site together. These are good for starters. AS you grow, build off of your template, and add one thing at a time. For instance, if your home page is pretty comprehensive, you may want to start adding navigation tabs.

Your navigation tabs should be titled simply, with headings for things your customers would be looking for. For example, besides a "Home" tab, you should have a "Services" tab. When the visitor clicks on this tab, he should be taken to a page that clearly outlines all of the services you perform.

From there, as you grow your website, you can have each of these services linked to another page on your website that goes into great deal of detail about the service. For example, if you own a hair salon, your services tab may list:

• Hair cuts
• Hair cuts and style
• Bridal hair
• Prom hair
• Extensions
• Perms

As you advance on your site, each of these entries could be a link to another page with more detail. "Extensions" could go into detail about clip-in, glue-in, and clamp-in extensions, and the difference between human hair and synthetic extensions.

KEEP IT SIMPLE
However, remember to keep it simple. If you have all kinds of moving graphics on each page, and a lot of music, it will take forever for each page to load. Rather than being "dynamic" and "modern", your site will be slow and frustrating.

Keep it simple, and as you become more familiar with the space available from your host, you can beef it up.

Web Design And Domain Names

Have you ever heard about famous people having to buy their own names to get a website? It happens all the time. As soon as a wannabe celebrity gets noticed, some enterprising person will purchase all of the domain names that could be associated with that person's name. Then when that celebrity wants to get their own website, they have to buy their name - usually at an inflated cost.

ARE YOU FAMOUS?
Now, this only works if you're famous. For instance, if you type in "General Motors", one of the top results will be the official GM website. If you type in "Barack Obama" or "Mitt Romney", one of the first sites you'll see listed is the official one.

However, if you are not famous, there is no point in using your name, or the name of your company, as your domain name. That's because nobody will look for you - it's just a fact. If you WANT a domain name all your own for the fun of it, that's one thing. But, most people developing a web site are doing it to make money, and that means customers have to find you. That means you have to get a domain name that people look for.

WHAT DO YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT?
What do you sell? If you sell services, what are the most trafficked keywords for those services? THOSE are the domain names you need to pursue. So if you are an exterminator in the San Francisco Bay area, look for domain names using keywords based on that service: pest control San Francisco Bay, exterminators San Francisco Bay, San Francisco Bay pest control, tec. Chances are, most of them have been bought. However, if you'll go to an online domain auction, you can often find the domain names you want. Domain registries will have many domains that are sitting dormant. After a period of time, if the owner doesn't do anything with the domain, the registrar will auction off the name.

You may have to pay a little more for an auctioned domain, but it will make a big difference in your traffic.

CONSIDER MULTIPLES
Is there commonly a plural and a singular of your service? For example: exterminator San Francisco Bay, exterminators San Francisco Bay. You may want to have more than one domain name, and link them all to your website. You can really get tangled up in this, so don't stress over it. But, you may want to get a domain name in your company's name, too, just to be sure that when someone DOES type in your company name, they get your website. So, when they type in "XYZ Exterminators", or San Francisco Bay exterminators, they go to the same place.

CONSIDER MULTIPLE EXTENSIONS
You may also want all three of the international extensions: ".com", ".net", and ".org". If yours is a strictly commercial site, this may be unnecessary. Most people automatically type in the ".com" extension, However, if your site will have ".net" or ".org" development, you need to be prepared for that.

Care with your domain names is vital for successful web design. Don't be afraid to spend a little money on this one.

Top Five Web Design Mistakes That Can Cost You Thousands of Pounds

In my years of experience as a web designer, I've come across tens, maybe hundreds, of websites that are just too tacky to sell. And when I mean tacky, I mean they have really bad design that it needs more than a bit of tweaking here and there to make their website work.

To make things clear, web design is more than just slapping together texts, colours and elements that look good together. It's about providing users with the best experience you can when they go to your website. That's something not a lot of business owners and even web designers understand, which is the reason why a lot of them come up with major design blunders that are not supposed to crop up. Do not follow this lead. If you're willing to go beyond putting together a website that looks good and instead go for a website that feels good, then don't make the following mistakes.

1. Not meeting your customers needs.

If you keep on operating from the thought that your website is a powerful marketing channel that can generate tons of leads, you are never going to get ahead. Yes, a website is an awesome way to promote your business, but that is not the reason your customers are on it. They don't care about how good your marketing strategies are. They only care about finding something that can help them solve their problems. Stop thinking of it as a marketing tool and start seeing it as a way to show people solutions to their problems.

2. Design too flashy.

Nothing is more annoying than a website that over-enthusiastically jumps out at you and shoves every single element down your throat. People certainly don't like being bombarded with so many things at once because it muddles the brain and makes it harder for them to make a decision. Don't throw everything in their faces at once. Keep it simple and tone down the use of moving images and sounds. In fact, if you can do away with these elements without making life harder for your visitors, the better.

3. Design too confusing.

When people go to your website, do they instantly know what it is about? If they can't, you're doomed to loads of visitors clicking the back button in less than 10 seconds. People need a reason to stay on your website, otherwise they will think they're just wasting their time. For example, what does a huge image of an athlete scoring the winning goal in a breakfast recipes website? There might be some connection if you take a deeper look, but most people will not be able to realize that your website is all about healthy cooking for breakfast just by looking at that image.

4. No contrast.

Unfortunately, a lot of web designers still think it's cool to use grey text over white backgrounds. A minimalist design certainly holds its own. It's better to focus on great content than cram your website with loads of design elements, after all. But being way too minimalist won't help. Nobody wants to read text that he has to squint to see. Contrast gets you a long way. Black over white, blue over yellow, dark over pale. No hot pinks over magentas, reds over oranges or greens over blues. You get the idea.

5. Not paying attention to content.

In single way, content is more important than design. You can have the worst design on the planet, but if you have really good content, you are still ahead of the game. What do I mean by really good content? I mean content that is always updated, relevant and most of all useful to your readers. If they can find a place in their lives where they can apply everything they have read from your website, then you can say you've got awesome content.
